Tipperary athletes delivered several outstanding performances at the AAI Games and National Combined Events Championships held at Morton Stadium, Dublin, on 18–19 July 2026. The championships formed part of Athletics Ireland’s national competition programme and provided athletes with an important opportunity to compete at national level.

Laura Frawley Leads the Way

Nenagh Olympic athlete Laura Frawley produced another standout performance over the weekend, claiming the Senior Women’s Heptathlon title with a personal best total of 5,141 points. The performance marked the first time Frawley has surpassed the prestigious 5,000-point barrier and included four individual personal best performances across the seven-event competition. Laura’s victory was built on a series of strong displays throughout the championships, underlining her status as one of Ireland’s leading combined events athletes.

Katie Bergin Claims Senior Sprint Victory

Moyne AC’s Katie Bergin delivered an impressive performance in the Senior Women’s 100m, securing victory in a new personal best time of 11.58 seconds. Bergin’s performance demonstrated excellent form and reinforced her position among Ireland’s top female sprinters.

Niamh Madden (Nenagh Olympic AC) secured second place in the Senior Women’s Shot Put with a best throw of 11.79 metres, continuing her consistent form in national competition.

In the men’s hammer events, John Dwyer (Templemore AC) produced an excellent series of throws to finish third in the Senior Men’s Hammer with 50.33m. Dwyer also claimed victory in the Heavy Hammer competition with a throw of 16m.

Clubmate Bobby Gleeson (Templemore AC) recorded a throw of 47.78 meters to finish fourth in the Senior Men’s Hammer competition, while Frances Gleeson (Templemore AC) competed strongly in the 6kg Hammer, placing eighth overall.

In the sprint events, David Forkan ran 11.94 seconds to finish eighth in Heat 2 of the Senior Men’s 100m.,Paul White (Nenagh Olympic) delivered a strong run in the Senior Men’s 400m, recording a time of 50.06 seconds.

Jack Hickey (Nenagh Olympic) achieved a best leap of 5.88 metres in the Senior Men’s Long Jump competition.

Laura Frawley’s breakthrough heptathlon victory and Katie Bergin’s sprint success were particular highlights from an excellent weekend of competition for Tipperary athletics.
