County Athletic News by Niall O Sullivan County Senior PRO
Tramore was the venue last Sunday for the Minster Master Cross Country Championships for both Women and Men.
In the women’s race the County was well represented with athletes from four clubs competing. Eileen McCullagh of Moyne AC ran a brilliant race when finishing 2nd overall to win the over 40 silver medal as she continues to show great form over the country this year. Then we had Carol Molloy of Fethard AC also running very well when winning the over 35 title impressively when finishing 6th overall. Hot on her heels in 7th place was Catherine Fogarty of Dundrum AC winning the over 45 title with another impressive performance. We also had good performances from athletes like Karen Coughlan (Dundrum AC) 11th, Sarah Whelan Clonmel AC 20th, Lisa Quinlan Moyne AC 21st, Sareen Walsh Clonmel AC 22nd, Emily Leahy Dundrum AC 26th, Liz Lalor Clonmel AC 29th and Michelle Doherty Clonmel AC 30th. Eileen McCullagh led the over 35 County team home to Gold along with Carol Molloy, Catherine Fogarty and Karen Coughlan. This race also incorporated the over 65 men event. Here Matthew Fleming of Fethard AC race very well when finishing 7th with his club mate Michael Croom Carroll also running well when finishing 17th.
The Men’s over 35 race also saw a good entry from the County. Dermot Gorman of Carrick on Suir ran very well when winning the over 40 Munster title. Then we had Stuart Moloney of Mooreabbey Milers making a welcome return to competition and he ran a well-judged race to win the Munster over 45 title. To make it a hattrick of Munster titles we had Eugene O Keeffe Carrick on Suir AC winning the over 55 title, impressive performances all round. We also had good performances from athletes like Mark Corcoran Nenagh Olympic 11th, Christopher Aylward Clonmel Ac 12th, Patrick Davoren Clonmel AC 16th and winning the over 50 bronze medal, Patrick Roche Carrick on Suir AC 27th, Eoghan Slattery Nenagh Olympic 28th, Peter Madden Templemore AC 29th, Paudie Coen Dundrum AC 30th, Trevor Whelan Clonmel AC 33rd, Patrick Harris Carrick on Suir AC 36th, Ger Hanley Mooreabbey Milers AC 39th, John Renehan Moyne AC 40th, Liam Lewis Mooreabbey Milers AC 42nd, Darius Gazdowicz Mooreabbey Milers AC 50th, Keith Fraher Carrick on Suir AC 56th, William O Donoghue Mooreabbey Milers AC 60th and Michael Moore Dundrum AC 62nd. At Inter County level, the over 35 team of Dermot, Stuart, Mark and Christopher won the silver medals. The over 50 County team of Patrick Davoren, Eugene O Keeffe and Peter Madden won the silver medals. At Inter club level the Carrick on Suir over 35 quartet of Dermot, Patrick Roche, Patrick Harris and Keith Fraher won the silver medals.
