The National Juvenile Championships held on 28th/29th June and the 11th/12th July in Tullamore saw hot conditions both weekends and it proved to be fertile ground for Tipperary clubs as their athletes produced outstanding performances, winning national titles, medals, and personal bests across a range of events.

Clonmel AC were again to the fore with Cara Ryan winning 4 golds altogether, starting with the U17 3KG Shot Putt (13.84m) and the 100m Hurdles (14.35s), which was her only second race over the new hurdle distance. Cara would take another gold in the U17 Long Jump with a leap of 5.50m and then finally gold in the U17 High Jump with a leap of 1.71m. Niamh Clarke won a silver in the U18 2km Race Walk. Finally, Oliver Stockil won a trio of U16 medals, taking golds in the Discus (40.59m) & Shot Putt (13.50m) and a silver in the Hammer (46.49m). Finally, Emer Brennan took home a bronze medal in the U19 400m with a time of 57.14s.

Laura Dowley of Carrick-on-Suir AC came 3rd in the U15 girls javelin with a pb throw of 29.63m securing the bronze. This finishes off a great season of club competitions for Laura who won gold in shot and in javelin in County Tipperary T&F Champs in Templemore and a silver medal in javelin at Munsters T&F Champs in MTU qualifying her for this National competition. Laura also had a great first year of competing in the post primary schools T&F competitions where she won 1st in the javelin in Tipperary County, then went on to come 3rd in minor shot and junior javelin at the Schools Munster Champs in Castleisland qualifying her for the minor shot and junior javelin competitions at the National Schools in Tullamore at the end of May.

Moyne AC’s Alana Spillane put herself in the mix early on in the girls U19 3000m, and showing her true determination, she was rewarded with a brilliant bronze medal in a time of 10.49.08. Tom Renehan claimed the gold in the National B U14 High Jump with a leap of 1.40m (PB).

Saoirse Joyce took silver in the National B U15 High Jump with a leap of 1.30m. Finally, Moyne ladies relay team of Emma Delaney, Dearbhla Gleeson, Kate Delaney & Aisling O’Reilly capped off their final track season with a brilliant silver medal in the U19 4 x 400m relay in a time of 4:28.63.

Alex Thompson-Dwyer, Templemore AC claimed the gold in the U15 3Kg Hammer with a throw of 60.68m. Lizzie Ryan, Templemore AC claimed gold in the U14 Hammer with a throw of 44.56m.

Tadgh Malone, Newport AC took a bronze medal home with a throw of 36.60m in the U15 Javelin. His clubmate Fred Morrissey took home a silver in the U14 Javelin with a throw of 32.53m. Finally, after many years of trying, Isabel Hayde took a great bronze in the U18 High Jump, equalling her PB of 1.50m. Isabel is one of the hardest working athletes in the club and its great to see her rewarded on the national stage for those efforts. Grainne Hanrahan won silver in the U12 Shot Put (2kg) with a throw of 6.38m.
Jack Tierney, Borrisokane AC maintained his good form to claim a national gold in the U18 Hammer Throw (5KG) with a throw of 56.30m. Club member Emily Stapleton claimed another gold in the U18 Hammer throw with 49.32m, adding to her Munster wins this season.
Aine Frawley, Nenagh Olympic AC followed in her sister Laura’s famed footsteps by claiming a silver in the U18 Long Jump with a leap of 5.55m. Her teammates Ella Ryan (1:08.15) and Hannah Larkin (1:08.21) took silver and bronze in the U18 400m Hurdles. Niamh Madden won a great gold medal in the U19 Shot Put (4 KG) with a throw of 11.87m. Ciardha Maloney claimed a silver in the National B U12 60m in 8.75s. Cormac Hanrahan also won a silver in the National B U12 600m in 1:51.19
