County Tipperary Athletic Notes by Niall O’Sullivan County Senior PRO
Clonmel was the venue last Sunday for the County Masters Road championships. Conditions were very good, warm and little breeze. Once again great credit to all the Clubs for getting their athletes out for these Championships as both events were very well supported.

In the 3k over 65 event, on the Blueway, we had the early lead set by Gerard Kerwick of Mooreabbey Milers AC and Matthew Fleming of Fethard AC with the chasing pack in close attention. As the athletes came back into view with 100m to go, we had a new leader, Benny English Dundrum AC and he maintained that pace to win in 12 mins 59 secs, the over 65 title impressively. Then we had Gerry Kerwick running on well to win the 0/65 silver in 13 mins 16 secs. Matthew Fleming held off a late challenge to win the 0/65 bronze medal in 13 mins 42 secs. Other award winners were Matt Alexander Coolquill AC 1st 0/70 in 14.29 with Ned O Brien Clonmel AC winning the silver in 15.56 and Michael Croome Carroll Fethard AC winning the bronze. Then we had Myles McHugh Clonmel AC winning the over 80 title in 19 mins 51 secs and Eamon Crowley Clonmel AC winning the over 75 title in 24 mins 5 secs. In the team event the Clonmel trio of Ned, Myles and Eamon won the gold medals. Esme Alexander Coolquiil AC was an impressive winner of the women’s over 65 title in 15 mins 21 secs.
The over 35 6k for both women and men started close to Hotel Minella and the athletes made their way down towards Ferryhouse and they came onto the Blueway at Carey’s slip. Here Dermot Gorman Carrick on Suir AC was an impressive winner in 19 mins 59 secs to win the over 40 title. Then we had Danny Brosnan Clonmel AC winning the over 40 silver medal in 20 .15. Liam Shanahan Thurles Crokes was 3rd overall and he won the over 45 gold medal in 20.50. Other awards wines were as follows: Padraig Brennan Clonmel AC 1st over 35 22.04, Richard Bresnan Dundrum AC 2nd 0/40 22.06, Paul Dolan Thurles Crokes 3rd 0/40 22.07, John Treacy Thurles Crokes 3rd over 40 21.07, James Maher Fethard AC 2nd over 45 in 21.20, Robert Speer Clonmel AC 3rd 0/45, Liam Lewis Mooreabbey Milers AC 1st 0/50 21.51, Ger Hanley Mooreabbey Milers AC 2nd 0/50 23.16, John Vahey Templemore AC 3rd 0/50 23.21, Eugene O’Keeffe Carrick on Suir AC 1st 0/50 21.36, Peter Madden Templemore AC 2nd 0/55 21.40, Conor Fleming Clonmel AC 3rd 0/55 22.30, Willie O Donoghue Mooreabbey Milers AC 1st 0/60 23.07, Tom Blackburn Mooreabbey Milers AC 2nd 0/60 23.50 and Sean O Dea Clonmel AC 3rd 0/60 26.01. In the over 35 team event, Thurles Crokes won the gold medals with tier team of Liam Shanahan, John Treacy, Denis McCullagh and Paul Dolan. The Clonmel AC team of Danny Brosnan, Robert Speer, Padraig Brennan and Conor Fleming won the silver medals. The Carrick on Suir AC team of Dermot Gorman, Eugene O Keeffe, Keith Fraher and Patrick Roche won the bronze medals. In the over 50 team event the Mooreabbey Milers AC team of Liam Lewis, Willie O Donoghue and Ger Hanley won the gold medals. The Clonmel AC team of Conor Fleming, Lar Martin and Vasiliy Neumerzhitskiy won the silver medals. The Templemore AC team of Peter Madden, John Vahey and Paddy Ryan won the bronze medals.

The women’s race over 6k was also competitive. Here we had Kealey Tideswell Clonmel AC coming home a convincing winner in 21 mins 36 secs to win the over 40 title. Then we had Eileen McCullagh Moyne AC winning the 0/40 silver medal in 22.56. Amanda Moroney Clonmel AC won the over 40 bronze medal in 23.18. Other Award winners were as follows: Carol Molloy Fethard AC 1st 0/35 24.02, Jessica Kennedy Fethard AC 2nd 0/35 25.09, Tanya O’Brien Fethard AC 3rd 0/35 25.37, Edel Roche Fethard AC 1st 0/45 23.45, Catherine Fogarty Dundrum AC 2nd 0/45 24.11, Paula Hendriksen Fethard AC 3rd 0/45 25.27, Kate Wall Clonmel AC 1st 0/50 25.08, Sareen Walsh Clonmel AC 2nd 0/50 25.45, Michelle Doherty Clonmel AC 3rd 0/50 26.18, Angela McCann Clonmel AC 1st 0/55 23.44, Helen O’Ceallaigh Clonmel AC 2nd 0/55 28.26, Deirdre Royce Fethard AC 3rd 0/55 28.58 and Lorraine Frances Fethard AC 1st 0/60 35.31.
In the over 35 team event, the Clonmel AC team of Kealey Tideswell, Amanda Moroney and Angela McCann won the gold medals. The Fethard AC team of Edel Roche, Carol Molloy and Jessica Kennedy won the silver medals. The Clonmel AC team of Kate Wall, Sareen Walsh and Sarah Whelan won the bronze medals. In the over 45 team event, the Clonmel AC team of Angela McCann, Kate Wall and Sareen Walsh won the gold medals. The Fethard AC team of Edel Roche, Paula Hendriksen and Deirdre Roche won the silver medals. The Clonmel AC team of Sarah Whelan, Elaine Horgan and Michelle Doherty won the bronze medals.
At the presentation of the awards, Owen Fanning, County Chairman, thanked Clonmel AC for promoting two great events. He also thanked the Clubs for supporting these Championships
